Committee

LOCAL COMMITTEE  

The local committee is responsible for operating all SOBC – Vancouver programs. Many coordinators (board members) with diverse skillsets are required to operate the local successfully each year. The local committee is composed entirely of volunteers.

The committee meets 10 times during the fiscal year. Meetings are on the second Thursday of the month.

arthurArthur has volunteered with the SOBC – Vancouver local since 2011. He is a coach for the floor hockey and running club programs, and now also sits on the local executive committee alongside his counterpart, Randy Liu. He feels absolutely privileged to be part of an amazing team that oversees the operations of the local, and looks forward to the future of SOBC -Vancouver!”

randy-liuRandy has volunteered with SOBC Vancouver since 2009 and has coached at the 10-pin bowling, developmental floor hockey, softball, T-ball, track and field, and running club programs. He currently works closely with Arthur as local coordinators, managing the Vancouver local’s many programs and exciting initiatives.

agnethaAgnetha is working towards her Masters in Experimental Medicine at UBC. Giving back and helping others has always been her passion and she is glad to be a part of the SOBC Vancouver Committee.

Kate has been Special Olympics Vancouver Treasurer since June 2016. Her responsibilities include maintaining records and submitting financial reports to the local executives, ensuring compliance with SOBC, Special Olympics Canada policies,and Provincial and Federal laws and regulations. In addition, her other duties include applying for local and government grants, and completing the associated reporting and compliance requirements. Outside of SOBC, Kate is a Certified Public Accountant.

geff-cJenny has been coaching with SOBC Vancouver soccer and hockey programs since 2012 and took on the role as program coordinator in 2013. She ensure that all programs have what it takes to run and organize semi annual coaches’ meetings. She loves interacting with the athletes and coaches, as they have become her inspiration. Outside of SOBC, Jenny is a Certified Management Accountant.

Geoffrey is currently in the Integrated Science program at UBC studying Physiology and Neuroscience. He has thoroughly enjoyed working with our close knit community of SOBC athletes and coaches over the past three years. Prior to joining the local committee in 2016, Geoffrey coached Track & Field, Swimming, and Active Start. He enjoys working with younger athletes and continues to coach Active Start throughout the year.

Chelsea has been the volunteer coordinator for Special Olympics Vancouver since 2006.  She is extremely social and loves meeting, orienting and appreciating all the passionate people that come to volunteer and coach with our programs and support our athletes.  Outside of SOBC she works as an Occupational Therapist with Vancouver Coastal Health.  Her dog Prints is the unofficial mascot of SOBC Vancouver.

alice-wAlice is working towards her Masters in Pharmacology at UBC and is a lifeguard and swimming instructor. Fitness is one of her main hobbies and she’s always enjoyed broadening her volunteering experiences in hopes of bettering the lives of others. Therefore, taking on SOBC Vancouver’s Volunteer Coordinator role has been an exciting journey for her.

mattMathew has been involved with SOBC for four years now. His position in floor hockey is left wing forward. In addition to competing in provincial and national competitions, he is currently involved with the SOBC – local executive along with fellow hockey teammate Nellie as athlete rep. A very rewarding experience.  As well he also trains at Club Fit during hockey season and during off seaon running club. Doing so helps him and his teammates get the most out of their amazing time with SOBC. He looks forward to more amazing challenges.

diane-zDianne has been volunteering with  Special Olympics Vancouver since 2004.   It has been such a rewarding and fulfilling experience. She has held numerous positions within the local from head coach to sitting on the executive and find each and every position as rewarding and the next.  She is the current registration coordinator, and has held this position for the past five years.

ZhongTimothy Ma is currently working as IT consultant for public sectors and private enterprises. He has always been interested in applying his working experience and knowledge to our society. Hence, he joined SOBC as a webmaster who is responsible for updates and developments of the SOBC Vancouver website.
